My Invisalign Experience with Costa Dentistry

This is a sponsored blog post in collaboration with Costa Dentistry.

Why Invisalign?

Hi friends!

I am so excited to finally share my Invisalign experience with you now that I have completed my final set of aligners! I’m hoping while sharing my journey I can better explain the full process from start to finish from my honest perspective if you are interested in perfecting your smile Invisalign yourself.

Working in an industry where I’m constantly talking and smiling I wanted to feel my most confident self and that is why I decided to move forward with Invisalign at Costa Dentistry in Great Falls, VA.

Yes, my teeth were seemingly fine ahead of this treatment, however, I never actually had any braces on my bottom teeth so there were several spaces throughout. When I did have braces for about 11 months at the beginning of high school, it was my understanding they put 8 brackets on my top teeth and shifted them off center to make room for my last adult tooth to finally come through on the top.

In addition to the bottom spacing and off center smile on the top, my bite also needed to be fixed as I was grinding my teeth at night and as a result was beginning to develop a few chips which honestly makes me lose sleep at night, hence why I was very excited to start the Invisalign process.

The Invisalign Process

My Invisalign journey officially began in January 2022 when I had my first set of iTero digital scans at my first Costa Dentistry appointment to create a digital model for the Costa team to map out a treatment plan for my aligners. The aligners are basically a series of clear, removable trays that will straighten your teeth over time which are a great alternative to traditional metal braces if you’re looking for a nearly invisible and discreet option. After my first set of iTero scans, the Costa team worked with professionals at Invisalign to analyze my teeth using the scans that were instantly sent over during my initial consultation and create my exact treatment plan.

At the beginning of March 2022 I started my very first set of aligners and returned two weeks later to have several attachments glued to the surface of my teeth which served as anchor points for the aligner trays to help move my teeth more effectively. The attachments are made of composite material which are the same color as your teeth so you don’t really notice them when talking or smiling. After the attachments were installed, I was given several months of aligners to wear 23 hours a day and swap out once a week and had follow-up appointments scheduled at Costa Dentistry in July and October 2022 for new iTero scans for new sets of revision aligners.

In March 2023 I started the overcorrection aligners meaning I was in the final stretch to finally have my attachments removed. I was a little nervous going into the attachment removal appointment in May 2023, however, it was surprisingly painless and super quick. I had my final scan after my attachments were removed and then picked up my Invisalign retainers to wear to be every night moving forward.

What You Really Want to Know

I feel like investment is the most-asked question when it comes to Invisalign in which the cost varies case to case but you can expect the price to start around $5,000 depending on how many sets of aligners you end up needing for your treatment plan.

Pain associated with Invisalign treatment was also a big question and I’m happy to report it was mildly uncomfortable at the worst, and the worst was only the first couple of hours after putting in a new set of aligners. A tip I received early on was to always swap out new trays right before bed and this was honestly a pro-tip as you don’t feel the discomfort as much during your sleep.

Another question I received regularly is how often you need to wear the trays and in full transparency, I think this is what I struggled the most with due to becoming pregnant and going through birth/postpartum during this treatment. The goal is to wear the trays for 23 hours a day and only removing the aligners to eat and then brushing and flossing every time you put them back in which takes a serious level of discipline. While I was pregnant, I was constantly snacking and my brain was in 100 different places at once trying to prep for baby so I will admit there were a few days where I could have worn my trays a bit longer, however, once I was out of the weeds of postpartum I was able to get back on track to a perfect smile.

Before/After

My Final Thoughts

Was it worth it? 10000%. I feel so much more confident about my smile and I’m so happy to finally have the perfect smile. If you have any further questions about anything I didn’t touch on, always feel free to reach out to my on instagram. I honestly cannot recommend Costa Dentistry enough and if you mention Trish Spoon at your appointment you receive $500 off Invisalign treatment!

1st Time at Costa Dentistry, a Luxury Dental Practice in the DMV Area

This is a sponsored blog post in collaboration with Costa Dentistry.

Hi Friends!

I have been searching for a new dentist in the DC area for a few months since my mom, who has cleaned my teeth since my entire life has recently entered retirement, and I’m so happy to have found Costa Dentistry in Great Falls, VA!

Office

Not to exaggerate but I don’t I can ever go back to a “regular” dentist after my experience at Costa! The dental office in Great Falls is absolutely stunning and gave me total medical spa vibes with all of the modern black and white decor. The spacious lobby feels nothing like any sort dental office and you can help yourself to coffee, tea or the mini fridge stocked with water or La Croix.

Dental Exam

My first visit at Costa consisted of a teeth cleaning, x-rays and an Invisalign consultation. Costa definitely goes above and beyond by offering various amenities through their comfort menu to help patients feel comfortable and relaxed during their visit. Although dental visits have never bothered me in the past, I was feeling *very* relaxed with my neck pillow and fleece blanket whilst watching Netflix from the ceiling during my exam – I almost forgot I was getting my teeth cleaned!

After my cleaning, my hygienist took a digital 3D scan of my teeth using the I-Tero scanner which was so cool and then showed me a mock up on the screen of how my smile and bite can improve with Invisalign which I’m over the moon excited to take you all along the process! I had braces on my top 8 teeth 15 years ago and never on the bottom, so I definitely have some spacing that I would love to improve and perfect my smile!

Special Discount

Costa Dentistry truly changed my entire perspective on dental exams and now I can’t wait to go back for my next appointment! Mention my name at the Great Falls or Ashburn location and new patients will receive a $25 Amazon Gift Card and a Costa Tumbler 🦷

Thanks so much Costa for having me!

Spoonful of Trish Turns 2!

Shocking, I know.

Two entire years of creating content, working with brands, shooting 5 outfits a day on a Sunday afternoon to meet all of my deadlines for the following week – it sounds exhausting, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Over the last two years I look back and ask myself why I actually started Spoonful of Trish and the initial reason may come as a surprise to some of you. Rewind to 2016, I started selling clothes on Poshmark and absolutely fell in love with community of posh sellers and that this little side hustle enabled me to try out all the new trends while recycling them to a new closet when the seasons changed.

With nearly 300,000 Poshmark followers, I thought starting a blog would help drive more users to my page, aka more sales. I never in a million years actually thought this website would turn into becoming a full-blown influencer working directly with my all-time favorite brands.

I get asked a lot how I balance it all: working a 9-5, being a wife, eating/sleeping/trying to exercise while simultaneously working to grow my platform. During the week there’s a lot of early mornings and late evenings emailing back and forth with brands, sending invoices, editing photos, drafting creative captions, engaging with followers, and tons of other behind the scenes work.

My weekends usually consist of shooting no less than 5 campaigns to post throughout the the following week – which either entails bringing 5 outfits to a location such a Georgetown and changing in my car between looks, or setting up product shoots inside my apartment or at hotels I’m working with.

Blogging/influencing has become such a passion for me and a creative outlet for me to express myself – and I pour every ounce of spare time working to create the best content and inspiration for my followers. Spoonful of Trish went from a hobby to a side business which has grown from 4,000 to 12,000 followers in the last year – which is so incredibly humbling.

I also spend a lot of time connecting with other bloggers to bounce ideas off each other, share our experiences, and form a community of collaboration and not competition. I’ve learned so much about the industry in the last 2 years I love to pass on any tips and tricks I’ve learned along the way as I truly want all of my blogger friends to succeed – I might even start a blogger course one day soon.

Thank you from the bottom of the heart for all of your support these last 2 years – I can’t wait to see what year 3 brings!

xoxo,

Trish

Spoonful of Trish Turns 1!

OMG how has it already been an entire year since Spoonful of Trish was born?! It was a Thursday evening, I was home alone sitting on my couch 2 glasses of wine deep watching the 15th season premiere of Grey’s Anatomy. I googled how create a custom URL and how to sign up for a domain and hosting site and here we are 365 later!

Honestly, I wasn’t sure if Spoonful of Trish would even last an entire year, so I initially only purchased the URL for 12 months. I never imagined in my first year of blogging that I would have the opportunity to work directly with huge brands such as Rent The Runway, Fab Fit Fun, Natalie B. Jewelry, Rocksbox and Winc just to name a few. My pictures also somehow made it up on Rebecca Minkoff’s website which is just insane to me. I totally wish I started this years ago but never had the courage to put myself out there.

When I started Spoonful of Trish I obviously had no clue where it would lead me. When found out in May that we would be moving 600 miles away to Washington, DC – I really didn’t know how I was going to meet new people since I work from home full-time. A month or so in I finally decided to bite the bullet and attend a DC Bloggers event all by myself where I was welcomed with open arms to an insanely supportive community of other influencers and bloggers, many of which I call my close friends now.

I really appreciate everyone who has followed along with me for an entire year supporting this dream if mine. Special shout out to my husband who takes at least half of my pictures (if not more) and has actually become quite the photography pro. Another shoutout to my OG friends and family who might make jokes here and there about “shopping my look” but I know deep down they have my back even when they don’t have a single clue what the LIKEtoKNOW.it app is.

Last but not least, a final shout to all of my internet friends who I may never have the opportunity to meet in person, but you guys are the best cheerleaders liking, commenting and sharing my posts. Speaking of cheerleading, if you haven’t watched CHEER on Netflix yet I highly recommend. And if you have watched the show you’ll understand this when I say if Navarro can hit their pyramid, you can do anything you put your mind to, including starting a blog. The more effort you put into something the more of a return you will receive. I’m so excited to see what year two brings and I already have a couple of surprises up my sleeve.

It’s Official…We Are Moving to Washington, DC!

Happy Thursday!

The news is out and we are moving 600 miles away from home to Washington, DC!

DC1.JPG

I actually graduated from high school 10 years ago today, so I certainly feel ready for a new adventure! My husband accepted a new job and since I work from home full-time, this is the most flexible time in our lives to make the move. Randy actually started his career up in DC a little over 6 years ago while I was still in college, so he’s always had his sights on making it back up to the city.

DC2.jpg

We casually looked at apartments last month in DC thinking maybe we would move at the end of summer, so it was nice that we already knew what area of town we wanted to live in. This move is happening rather quickly and much sooner than expected, but we found a place to live (with a rooftop pool of course) and we will be hitting the road in two short weeks. We will be living right in the heart of Logan Circle and we can’t wait to get up there and start exploring our new neighborhood.

DC3.JPG

It’s definitely sad and scary to be leaving our friends and family behind, but Atlanta will always be my home and I plan to fly home and visit as much as I can. I’m also really excited about how close DC is to some really cool cities in the Northeast (ahem, NYC!). Randy’s sister and her family are also local to the DC area, so we are very fortunate to have family nearby.

Thanks for following along on our new adventure, and I’m excited for all the new DC content that will come to my blog this summer!

Trish

Cactus Queen

Happy Wednesday!

Since I am a self-proclaimed proud plant mom, I was super excited to check out the Varnish + Vine cactus shop in East Point, Atlanta to pick out some new babies to join the Spoon plant fam. It took a great deal of self control not to go all in on a 5 foot cactus for our apartment, but I hope that one day I will live in a place where they can grow abundantly out of my front yard.

We absolutely loved the Varnish + Vine East Point warehouse as the walls were filled with tons of beautiful and unique cacti to choose from. We ended up selecting two smaller ones that would fit inside a planter I already owned, plus the smaller size pairs well with my other cacti that I keep on the window seal. The best part about this little cactus shop is they only charge $15 per foot which is an amazing deal so we were able snag our two for only $25 total.

If you aren’t in the Atlanta area, don’t fret, Varnish + Vine frequently hosts pop-up shops in different cities so I would check out their instagram to see if they are coming to a city near you.

Outfit Details

Necklace: Natalie B. Jewelry // Earrings: Natalie B. Jewelry // Sunglasses: Tom Ford // Kimono: Buddy Love, similar here // Tank Top: Free People, similar here // Belt: B-Low the Belt

In typical Trish fashion, I took this opportunity to soak in the desert vibes with my snake print kimono and cactus bag. I’m also super excited to let you know I’m officially an ambassador for my FAVORITE jewelry brand Natalie B. Jewelry, so you will see me posting and tagging them in pretty much all my posts because their pieces are incredible. I’ve been shopping Natalie B. for YEARS so I am super excited for the opportunity to create with them. Feel free to reach out to me for any of my recommendations and I have many, and use my code NBJTrish15 for 15% off your entire purchase.

Don’t forget you can instantly shop all of my looks via the LIKEtoKNOWit app or online via www.liketoknow.it/insta_spoon.

Hi Friends!

Today is officially my 28th birthday, so I thought it would be fun to share 28 things that you may not know about me! I’m so excited to see what the next year brings, but also sadly realizing I am now closer to 30 than 25!

  1. I met my husband Randy at 16 and married him at 26.
  2. Champagne is my drink of choice for any and every occasion.
  3. I’ve seen Britney Spears perform in Las Vegas 3 times.
  4. Speaking of Vegas, I’ve visited 9 times in 3 years.
  5. I only drink black coffee (preferably Starbucks).
  6. I don’t drink milk in my cereal and never have.
  7. Most of the time when I say I don’t eat a certain food, it’s because I’ve never tried it.
  8. I’ve been friends with my best friend since I was 5, and we eat at the same restaurant for dinner almost every single week and always order the same thing.
  9. Believe it or not, I was a pole vaulter in high school.
  10. I worked at a pet store in college and I’ve never owned a pet.
  11. Speaking of pets, I still love stuffed animals and have no shame admitting it.
  12. Sometimes I will sit on the couch in front of the TV and watch Netflix on my laptop instead of on the TV.
  13. I prefer to sleep in a freshly made bed where the sheets are tucked in super tight.
  14. I’ve never lived outside of the state of Georgia.
  15. I work from home full time and talk to myself throughout the day into the mirror hanging above my desk.
  16. My top 3 favorite movies are still Legally Blonde, Mean Girls and Bring It On, and I don’t see that ever changing.
  17. I am not a Disney person at all and if I could never have to go to a theme park again I would be fine with it (sorry if this offends you).
  18. I only own 1 pair of blue jeans and haven’t worn them in years.
  19. My dream halloween costume is the iconic Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake all denim look, just waiting for my husband to agree to it.
  20. My full name is Patricia Anne, named after my mom’s mom.
  21. I always wake up with the craziest bed-head even if I go to bed with clean hair, I’ll never understand.
  22. I absolutely love country music even though my husband can’t stand it.
  23. I could eat Chick-fil-A for every meal.
  24. I am the worst packer – I could be gone for 1 night and it looks like I’ll be staying the week.
  25. My wedding day was actually one of the most stress-free days of my life.
  26. Speaking of weddings, I ended up saying yes to the first ever wedding dress I tried on.
  27. I actually decided I wanted to start a blog about 3 years ago and it took me this long to take the plunge.
  28. Randy and I have been throwing joint birthday parties for the last 5 years called “Rash Bash” = RAndy + TriSH as our birthdays are 6 days a part. The 5th edition this year was a blast and we can’t wait to continue to the tradition.

Home Office Reveal

Office

Raise your hand if you live and work out of a 900 square foot apartment? I consider myself very lucky to be in this current situation, therefore creating a functional office space where I spend 40+ hours a week was at the top of my list

img_5880-1

Since I’m essentially working out of my living room, I carefully chose decor that helps my workspace become a part of the overall design. First on my list was a comfortable office chair that was both supporting and aesthetically pleasing. I also wanted the desk and printer stand to go well with our current wood furniture pieces, so I chose a dark cherry wood.

For the record, I’ve been working from home full time for 3 years now so it’s taken me this long to finally find all of these pieces that work perfectly with our little home. Eventually one day I hope to transfer to an actual room of the house, but for now my little living room nook is serving me just fine.
